Terms of Service

Last updated: October 24, 2026

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and the operator of Movemory. They apply when you use the Movemory website at movemory.com, the web app at app.movemory.com and the Movemory apps for iOS and Android (together, the “Service”). By creating an account, continuing as a guest or buying a subscription, you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Who we are

Movemory is operated by Vladimir Paramonov (Paramonov Vladimir Sergeevich), Individual Entrepreneur, registered in the Republic of Armenia, state registration number 286.1580471, taxpayer identification number (TIN) 20285061, registered address: 104 Gevorg Chaush St., Apt. 4, Ajapnyak District, Yerevan 0057, Armenia (“we”, “us”, “our”).

Contact: support@movemory.com.

2. The Service

Movemory is a chess opening trainer. You build a repertoire of openings as a tree of moves, and the Service drills each line with you and schedules reviews using spaced repetition. The Service includes a library of popular openings based on the public lichess.org openings database, statistics, reminders on your device and import and export of your data in PGN and JSON formats.

Movemory is a study tool. It does not give chess advice, does not evaluate positions for you and does not promise any particular result in your games.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, and a parent or guardian must make any purchase. You must not use the Service if the law where you live prohibits it.

4. Accounts and guest mode

  • Sign-in. You can create an account with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. Your account lets you use the same repertoire on several devices.
  • Guest mode. You can use the Free plan without signing in. Guest data is stored on our servers but is linked only to the device where it was created. If you clear the app or browser data, you may lose access to it. Guest accounts that have not been used for 180 days are deleted together with their data. You can sign in at any time to move your guest data into an account.
  • Security. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to your Apple or Google account secure. Tell us promptly at support@movemory.com if you believe someone else has used your account.
  • An account is personal. Do not share it or create accounts by automated means.

5. Plans

Free includes up to 2 openings and up to 5,000 moves in your repertoire. Pro is a paid subscription that raises these limits to 100 openings and 250,000 moves. Current prices and limits are shown on our pricing section and in the app before you buy. We may change the Free plan and its limits in the future; if a change reduces the limits, existing data is kept as described in section 7.

6. Subscriptions, payment and renewal

Purchases on the web

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. When you buy on the web, you buy from Paddle, and Paddle’s Buyer Terms also apply to the purchase. Paddle charges your payment method, calculates and collects sales tax or VAT where applicable and issues invoices.

Purchases in the iOS and Android apps

In the mobile apps, Pro is sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those purchases are governed by the terms of Apple or Google, which handle billing, renewals, cancellations and refunds for them.

Automatic renewal

Pro is offered as a monthly or yearly subscription. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period and you are charged the then-current price unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time: on the web in Settings → Manage subscription in the app or through paddle.net; on iOS or Android in the subscription settings of your App Store or Google Play account. After cancellation, Pro stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.

Free trial

If a plan includes a free trial (for example, 7 days on the yearly plan), you will not be charged if you cancel before the trial ends. If you do not cancel, the paid subscription starts automatically at the end of the trial. A trial is available once per person.

Price changes

We may change subscription prices. A new price applies only from your next renewal, and we or our reseller will tell you in advance, so you can cancel before it takes effect.

Refunds

Refunds are described in our Refund Policy. Nothing in these Terms limits any right to a refund or other remedy that you have under consumer protection laws that apply to you.

7. When Pro ends

If your Pro subscription ends or your repertoire is above the Free limits for any other reason, nothing is deleted. All your openings stay available for training and viewing, and you can rename or delete openings and moves. Adding new openings or moves is paused until your repertoire fits the Free limits again or you renew Pro.

8. Your content

Your repertoire, comments, names and training history (“Your Content”) belong to you. You give us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, copy, process and display Your Content only as needed to provide the Service to you, including syncing between your devices and making backups. This licence ends when Your Content is deleted from the Service.

You are responsible for Your Content and for having the right to import it. Do not upload anything unlawful, or anything that infringes the rights of others. You can export Your Content at any time in Settings → Data.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service. In particular, you will not:

  • break the law or use the Service to infringe anyone’s rights;
  • access the Service or its data by automated means (bots, scrapers, bulk requests) except through features we provide;
  • try to bypass plan limits, payment, security or access controls, or access another user’s data;
  • interfere with or overload the Service, introduce malware or probe it for vulnerabilities without our written permission;
  • copy, modify, reverse engineer or decompile the Service, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
  • resell, rent or sublicense the Service, or use it to build a competing product;
  • use the Service to send spam or store content that is unlawful, harmful or abusive.

If you find a security issue, please report it to support@movemory.com.

10. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, texts, logo and the name Movemory, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own, non-commercial study of chess, in line with these Terms. No other rights are granted.

Some parts of the Service are provided by third parties under their own licences: opening names and lines from the lichess.org openings database (CC0) and chess piece images by Colin M. L. Burnett (BSD licence). Chess moves and openings themselves are not owned by anyone.

11. Third-party services

The Service relies on third parties, such as Apple and Google for sign-in, Paddle for web payments and the App Store and Google Play for in-app purchases. Your use of their services is governed by their terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services, but we choose them with care. See our Privacy Policy for how they process your data.

12. Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep the Service available and your data safe, but we do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, timely or error-free, or that it will be available at any particular time. We may carry out maintenance, and we may change, add or remove features. If we make a change that materially reduces what you paid for, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel; if you have prepaid for a period you cannot use, you can ask for a pro-rata refund. If we decide to shut the Service down, we will give at least 30 days’ notice so that you can export your data, and we will refund the unused part of any prepaid subscription.

13. Disclaimer

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the opening library or any analysis is complete or correct. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of important data; the export feature is there for that purpose.

14. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from or related to the Service. Our total liability for all claims related to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim and (b) USD 50.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

15. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) brought by third parties that arise from Your Content, your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms. This section does not apply to the extent a claim is caused by our own fault.

16. Termination

By you. You can stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account in Settings → Delete account; this permanently deletes your account and all Your Content. Deleting the account cancels an active web subscription bought through Paddle. Subscriptions bought in the App Store or Google Play must be cancelled there.

By us. We may suspend or close your account if you materially or repeatedly breach these Terms, misuse the Service, or if we are required to by law. Where reasonable, we will warn you first and give you a chance to export your data. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused part of any prepaid subscription.

Consequences. When an account is closed, your licence to use the Service ends and Your Content is deleted as described in our Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including 8, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18 and 19) survive.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We will post the new version on this page and change the date above. If a change is material, we will notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree to the new Terms, you can cancel your subscription and stop using the Service before they take effect; continuing to use the Service after that means you accept them.

18. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Armenia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and nothing in these Terms takes that away.

If you have a problem with the Service, please contact us first at support@movemory.com; most issues can be solved quickly this way. If we cannot resolve a dispute within 30 days, it may be brought before the competent courts of Yerevan, Armenia. If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live. For questions about a web payment, you can also contact Paddle through paddle.net.

19. General

  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer them to a successor in connection with a reorganisation, merger or sale of the Service, provided your rights under these Terms are not reduced; we will tell you if this happens.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce a right, that does not mean we waive it.
  • Language. These Terms are written in English. Translations, if any, are for convenience; the English version prevails to the extent permitted by law.
